Track of the week : Girlpool – Before The World Was Big

This is one of the best songs I’ve heard all year, exactly the kind of melodic lo-fi indie that I love, and it was made by two teenagers with two chords, a bass and not much else.

Now, I’m used to bands being much younger than me (I’m 35, since you ask). It’s happened since I was 17 at the Reading Festival, and a band called Radish were on the main stage. Their lead singer, Ben Kweller, was 15 if I recall correctly. So, whilst it does make feel old at times, it doesn’t bother me that much. However, if you really want to feel old listen to ‘Before The World Was Big’. Two people almost 20 years younger than you singing about nostalgia for their childhood will have that effect.
