There’s an awful lot of electro-indie-pop out there, and has been for a decade or so since the days when Klaxons and CSS were the hottest bands around. It can all start to sound a bit samey, so it takes something special to stand out. “Two Hearts” grabbed my attention the first time I heard it in session on Marc Riley’s 6music show.
NZCA Lines is a project of one Michael Lovett, former touring member of Metronomy, and melodically at least there are slight similarities with that band. But NZCA Lines is much, much more dancefloor orientated, with pounding basslines and the kind of distorted squelchy synth sounds that I’ve always loved. Almost enough to make me dust off my dancing shoes and start clubbing again. An early contender for song of the year.
