My wife and I listen to 6music whilst we eat. Generally it’s just on for background, but occasionally something will catch my ear and my wife will notice I’m staring gormlessly I nto space rather than listening to what she says.
Let’s Eat Grandma were the latest example, on Marc Riley’s show last week. The track, Deep Six Textbook is one of the most beautiful, haunting, atmospheric pieces of music I’ve heard in an age. It unfolds at a glacial pace, with hints of post-rock and freak folk, multiple instruments and intertwining vocals creating a sound not quite like anything I’ve heard before.
Even more astonishing then to find that Let’s Eat Grandma are comprised of a 16 year old and a 17 year old. I hadn’t even heard music like this at that age, let alone produced it. That this is their debut single bodes very well indeed for the future.
