Track of the week : Anna Meredith – Nautilus

The say the opening track on an album should be an attention-grabber, and few tracks I’ve heard fulfill that criteria better than Nautilus. An entirely mix of horn fanfares and throbbing, distortion-filled electro, it’s both remarkably simple and absolutely perfect. It’s also completely unlike anything else on Meredith’s debut album ‘Varmints’, perhaps because Nautilus dates back to 2012 and the album only came out in March this year. Plenty of other tracks on Varmints are worth a listen, but don’t expect an album of Nautilus’s (which might be a bit too relentless in any case)
