Track of the Week : Kleenex – Die Matrosen

Saddened to hear of the passing this week of Marlene Marder, of the band Kleenex/Liliput (they had to change their name after being sued by a certain well-known tissue manufacturer). The immediate post-punk period is perhaps my favourite musical period, and Kleenex/Liliput were one of many great bands from the era, and a reflection of the relative gender equality of that time (compared to the first 25 years of rock history at least).

Die Matrosen is my favourite song of theirs, at least partially because it has to be the only post-punk song featuring both whistling and saxophone. Their whole (small) back catalogue is worth a listen though.
