I fully believe that it’s never too early to introduce your kids to ‘grown-up’ music (such as my friend’s daughter, who loves Bowie). But since starting this blog I’ve discovered loads of great music aimed specifically at kids too, so each week I’m going to highlight a favourite kids song, to show you that kids music doesn’t just have to be nursery rhymes and the Frozen soundtrack.
This week : Four Tet featuring Princess Watermelon – Go Go Ninja Dinosaur. This song actually dates back a decade, to a compilation album for kids called Colours are Brighter, featuring the likes of Belle & Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand and The Divine Comedy. It was the first time I’d heard of artists I loved writing music aimed at kids. Of course, back then I hadn’t even met my wife and kids were the furthest thing from my mind, so it didn’t seem that relevant to me
Even then, I appreciated this song. Fun, catchy electro-pop and featuring a ninja dinosaur who want to bring the boogie-beat to the universe. Sounds like the soundtrack to a kids’ TV programme that doesn’t exist yet. What more could a kid want?
