Kurt Cobain would have turned 50 today had he still been with us, so today’s track of the day was always going to be a Nirvana track.
Lounge Act is perhaps one of the less acclaimed Nirvana tracks, and in a way I can see why. It’s at a heart a pleasant enough verse/chorus/verse number, without being as instantly memorable as some of the more well known Nevermind tracks. It’s a single moment that makes me love Lounge Act though, and that’s when the vocal comes in for the third verse.
Cobain’s voice is one of the most powerful, moving instruments in music history, and after a fairly restrained first two verses and choruses, he lets the full screaming power of that voice loose on verse 3, and the result is spine-chillingly wonderful. This man’s voice could do such amazing things, whether with his own songs or the many covers that cropped up in Nirvana’s repertoire. I only wish he was still here to share it with us.
The first 483 tracks of the day can only be found on my Tumblr. Everything since can be found here. There’s also a Spotify playlist of every single track of the day (or those available on Spotify at least) below:
