Track of the Day 498 : Thea Gilmore – Saviours and All

I’ve been a fan of folk singer-songwriter Thea Gilmore for over 15 years now, and this track from her 2001 album Rules for Jokers remains one of my favourites. I have fond memories of live performances of it, with a spine-tingling acapella rendition of its’ irresistable chorus often included.

Saviours and All is also one of the tracks that established Thea Gilmore as one of my favourite lyricists, with lines like “My character witness just went down for perjury”. As with so many artists, it’s the song or album I first fall for that I love most deeply, but it’s pleasing that Gilmore continues to produce wonderful music, and no doubt will do so for many years.
