Add n to (x) were one of the more underrated bands of my youth. Their peak years coincided with a very dull time in music, after Britpop and before the explosion of bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes early in the new millenium. I can’t help but feel their analog synth heavy sound would have found more success had they been around in the mid-2000s when indie kids showed more of an appreciation of electronic music.
Or perhaps not, perhaps they were always destined to be a niche concern. In either case, their first two albums On the Wires of our Nerves and Avant Hard deserve to be considered classics, and I’m always hopeful they will be rediscovered and more appreciated someday. They have many fine tracks, but I’ve chosen Robot New York, simply because it was the first track of theirs I knew and loved.
